PUWER & LOLER INSPECTIONS - NOT AN OPTION BUT A LEGAL REQUIREMENT ON ALL FARMS
The majority of farm businesses will have heard of the regulations relating to PUWER (Provision and use of work equipment regulations 1998) & LOLER (Lifting operations and lifting equipment regulations 1998).
What is probably of more concern is the number of farms who are still under the belief that these regulations may not apply to their farming business. It is worth being aware of the facts:
Since 1998 it has been a requirement by the Health & Safety Executive that all lifting equipment and lifting operations are annually inspected. This includes Farm Machinery such as Telehandlers, Fork Lift Trucks and Tractor Fore-End Loaders.
The regulations apply to all telehandlers & loaders used on farms should be inspected irrespective of whether or not there are workers on the farm.
All the major agricultural insurers require policyholders to ensure all statutory regulations are being met under their policy conditions.
HSE on standard farm visits can now charge for a visit where a breach of Health & Safety has occurred. In many cases the first item targeted will be forklift/loader certification.
UK Risk Management & Engineering Services technicians are specialists in the inspection & certification of agricultural & general contracting machinery requiring inspection under PUWER/LOLER.
