Regulation and Codes of Practice now cover the use of professional anticoagulant rodenticides and the use of metallic phosphides.
Use of rodenticides
From 1 June 2016 any rodent control using professional second generation anticoagulent rodenticides must be carried out by a person with a recognised award in the use of rodenticides.
For those on Farm Assured Schemes, with audited rodent control, this regulation comes into effect in 2017.
Lantra Awards - Technical Award in Responsible and Effective Control of Commensal Rodents

It is intended to provide full working knowledge of both preventive and curative methods to be able to plan, implement and monitor a control programme that is appropriate to the situation, assessing and using the most efficient and safe methods and with due regards to the environment.The Lantra award is approved and can be trained and assessed in one day. Use of metallic phosphide products
Metallic phosphide products are used to control rats, rabbits and moles. All users must hold a recognised and current certificate in the safe use of metallic phosphides.

The City & Guilds Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Aluminium Phosphide for vertebrate pest control is a recognised award for the purchase and use of such products.
There is a one day Lantra training course, followed on an other day by a City & Guilds assessment.
