The Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs (SAYFC) East Region Agri visit to Bowhill Farming – all clubs welcome.
This tour, organised by Buccleuch estates, will give attendees a chance to learn about this large and diverse enterprise, largely situated between the Yarrow and Ettrick Valleys.
Bowhill Farming covers 6,555 hectares and runs 200 premium health pure Aberdeen Angus cows, producing breeding stock for replacements, suckler cow herd of 340 cows, a 7,150 ewe hill flock of Scottish Blackfaced/South Country Cheviot and an upland flock of 1,350 breeding ewes, supplying lamb to Sainsbury’s. It also has 300 breeding hinds, providing venison for Dovecote Park, and a 32,000 free-range hen laying operation. The arable cropping includes winter barley, spring barley, spring oats and kale, mainly for stock feed and they also operate a 200kW Anaerobic Digester.
For more info see the SAYFC website.
On Sunday 19th October, qualifiers from across our three regions will come together to show off their skills in dressing cattle to show/auction ring standard.
Galloway & Macleod is supporting the competition, helping to encourage the promotion of these highly useful agri-skills.
