Due to our valued stockman returning home to his family farm, an opportunity has arisen for a full-time stockperson/GFW. We are a family run hill/upland business spread over three units between Ashkirk and Roberton in the Scottish Borders.
Stocking consists of 1800 ewes split equally between Lanark type Blackface and North Country Hill Cheviots, 100 cows consisting of Pedigree Galloways and Shorthorn crosses and a small pedigree herd of Beef Shorthorns. All big bale silage is made in house.
Additional work may be available for a family member such as an apprenticeship.
The candidate will require:
● Experience with livestock
● Good working dogs essential
● Attention to detail and work in a tidy manner
● Ability to work alone or as part of a team
● Ability to undertake light tractor work associated with the business
● Ability to fence but not essential
Salary commensurate with experience including pension scheme and 4/5 bedroom ch/dg house with wood burner and electric range cooker.
BEDMAX
Location: near Belford, Northumberland (14 miles from Berwick-upon-Tweed and 17 miles from Alnwick)
Bedmax is the UK’s foremost equine and animal bedding production company. As a progressive, family-owned business, we are looking for a full-time Production Operative to join our manufacturing team at our Northumberland plant. In addition to producing high-quality bedding products, we manufacture Hotmax, a fuel log created from the by-products of our bedding production process.
Job Summary:
This is a varied and rewarding role, requiring the successful candidate to perform a range of manufacturing tasks, using complex equipment to ensure the plant runs smoothly and safely. The role offers excellent training opportunities, with support from an experienced manager and team leaders.
Key Requirements:
• Experience of working in a similar role
• Mechanically-minded
• Forklift driver’s licence (essential)
• Perform daily checks on factory equipment
• Experience with high standards of Health & Safety
• Focus on producing consistently high-quality products
Main Responsibilities:
• Safely operate large 360-degree loading equipment, forklifts, and telescopic loaders
• Operate BEDMAX’s bagging and drying machinery
• Troubleshoot basic issues to maintain factory operations
• Maintain a clean, safe working environment
• Ensure product quality standards are met
• Carry out preventative maintenance on factory equipment
Personal Attributes:
• Proficient in written and spoken English, numerate, and highly responsible
• Initiative-driven, eager to undergo training, and committed to team support
Salary: £13 per hour, with increases based on experience and successful completion of the probationary period. This includes a shift premium, with shifts rotating between mornings and late shifts. Overtime is available and paid at time and a half.
Note: Due to the location of the plant, own transport is essential.
Experienced GFW required to join a dedicated team on farm near Duns.
Must be motivated, diligent, and reliable. Duties will include day-to-day stock work and tractor work, with every 3rd weekend on.
The farm has a pig enterprise with 350 sows and is looking to expand arable contracting business in SE Scotland. Stock experience would be an advantage whilst with pig not essential as pig training will be applied on farm.
The company has an ongoing training program for all employees and is fully compliant in all health and safety awareness programmes.
The farm is a 15-minute drive from the centre of Duns. Attractive package for the right candidate.
