Lantra next generation training funds available

Lantra has announced the Next Generation Practical Training Fund is now available which aims to support those who have started on their agricultural path within the past five years and who are undergoing or have just completed formal sector- related education.

As some people get involved with farming at a very young age, Lantra has said that this five-year rule will only begin after the applicant has turned 18.

It has become clear that within the agricultural sector there is a clear need for more new entrants-focussed training. There are a range of evolving issues and challenges in the sector, and it is key that those working in agriculture get the right training if they are to adapt to these changing requirements and if we are to meet our net zero and biodiversity targets.

It is particularly important that the next generation have access to improved knowledge, know-how and skills, as the challenges we face are not short-term.

The aims of the fund are to encourage more new, and prospective entrants as well as next generation entrants to take up training courses (with a particular focus on: climate change adaptation and mitigation practices, and biodiversity/habitats improvement, but also other equally important areas such as health and safety; equipment training; business efficiency and resilience).

It will also enable those less financially able to access key training, support, provide equal opportunities for those looking for jobs in the sector and support employability and a sustainable rural workforce.

More information about the fund can be found on the Lantra Scotland website.
